Build-A-Web Workshop allows the user to assemble an idealized internet in the form of a dress up game.

Dress up choices are informed by the frustrations that marginalized groups experience online.

Anyone who didn't identify as a cis straight able-bodied white man were invited to answer the following questions:

  • What do you avoid on the internet?
  • What do you think the internet lacks?
  • Any particular areas of information, data or connections that come to mind?
  • What’s the number one thing you would change about your experience online?
  • How has online surveillance shifted the way you navigate digital spaces?
  • Have you come across any safe corners of the internet?
  • Have you seen or heard of any creative ways people have navigated their safety on the internet?
  • Social media has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. How has your experience shifted along with it? Spanning from online forums to the emergence of big tech and beyond
  • How does the internet affect the relationships with those in your life? Has it caused any harm or good?
  • Can you name a time when the internet provided a meaningful change in your life?
  • Has the internet liberated you in any way?
  • How do you imagine the internet being used "for good"? Whether that be for the collective or just for you.

The biggest thank you to everyone who took the time to answer these questions <3
